Our office is located in Asheville, N.C. and our onsite services extend throughout Western North Carolina, East Tennessee and the foothills region of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. These services include management plan development, forest inventory and appraisal, timber sale administration, forest tax appraisals and hazard tree evaluations.

Management Plan Development

Having a written plan is often a landowners first step towards wisely managing a piece of property. Being an independent consulting firm means we are able to offer plans to suit the landowners' personal objectives, and not those of any other individual, group or entity. We are certified to provide Forest Stewardship Plans in those states in our service area. We also are experienced in developing management plans for use in securing forest-use assessments through county tax offices.

Forest Inventory and Appraisal

We can provide inventories for both timber and non-timber values.  Whether you need to know the number of boardfeet on a tract or the location of endangered plants, we can meet your inventory needs.  We can also provide a full appraisal of value on timber products.  Such appraisals are commonly used when selling timber, selling property, gifting property, inheriting property, granting a conservation easement or establishing a basis for tax purposes.  We also are experience in making timber appraisals in cases of timber trespass.

Timber Sale Administration

The use of a consulting forester to sale timber has been found to increase the total revenue from timber sales over 20% on average.  Our timber sale services include: appraising the timber, marking or designating timber, marking or designating boundaries, soliciting buyers, receiving bids, managing the escrow account, facilitating contract negotiations, developing road design and administering the terms of the contract.  We have many satisfied clients and references are available on request.

Forest Tax Appraisals

Property taxes, income taxes and estate taxes can each eat away at the assets held in forest land.  We can provide information which will ease the tax bite.  We can work to secure a forest-use assessment in order to receive the correct property tax evaluation.  We can establish a basis for your forest land, assuring advantageous capital gains treatment.  We can also work with your accountant or tax attorney in providing information for use in reducing estate taxes.

Hazard Tree Evaluation

With the services of a Certified Arborist we are able to meets the needs of landowners with property on the urban fringe.  We can work with the landowner and their builder to save trees around a building site and to assure that hazard trees are removed from the area.  We also can provide appraisals for individual trees in cases where trees are removed under eminent domain or against the wishes of the landowner.

Greenleaf Forest ManagementEducation Sevices

Our education services are designed to benefit both forest landowners and non-profit groups which have a role in the management of both public and private lands.  Our staff is more than willing to help in the planning of events.  Our primary education services include a speaker's bureau, workshop facilitation and forestry camps.

Speaker's Bureau

In need of someone to speak about forest management and wildflowers, or about forest management and water quality?  We offer speakers who can speak knowledgably on a range of subjects related to forest management.  We offer speakers for conventions, symposiums and meetings.  We have worked in the past with environmental organizations, youth groups and community groups on a range of projects.  We would enjoy being part of your event.

Workshop Facilitation

Setting priorities and determining policy is an important task of any board of directors.  It is especially important for boards of land holding organizations such as trust and land conservancies.  The policies these boards make regarding forest management can have impact for many lifetimes.  We can help your board or committee form a concensus forest management policy.  We can simply facilitate the process or we can provide data and research leading to facilitation.

Forestry Camps

Our newest offering in the field of forest education is our forest camps.  These camps are especially designed to give forest landowners hands-on experience in the day-to-day management of a forest.  The camps emphasize outdoor learning and are conducted at a relaxed pace assuring participants time for personal recreation and restoration.  Lodging, meals and ground transportation are all provided.  Instructor to client ratios are maintained at 1:10 or less.  For the forest landowner looking for a learning vacation our camps offer an enlivening experince.  Contact us to be placed on our mailing list and to be notified of upcoming camps.
